Gomel oblast lies to the southeast of Belarus and borders on Briansk oblast /Russia/, Kiev , Chernigov and Zhitomir oblasts /Ukraine/.

The territory of Gomel oblast is 40,400 square kilometers. One third of the territory is covered with forests; the biggest rivers – the Dnepr, the Sozh, the Berezina and the Pripiat – are the most important navigable ways of Belarus .

There is the national park Pripiatskiy and the Polesye radiation-ecological reserve in the oblast.

Today there are 23 museums and 4 theaters and philharmonic societies in Gomel oblast numbers.

The region has 2,540 monuments, 1,360 of them are monuments of history and culture, 140 – of architecture and 1,040 – of archeology. And if the latter /they include ancient settlements and burial places/ are of interest only to archeologists and historians, the other places stir deep interest of the people who appreciate architectural masterpieces and are fond of the Belarusian history.

Listapad 2015 to open to strains of jazz on 6 November

The opening ceremony of the 22nd Minsk International Film Festival Listapad will take place at the Moskva cinema house on 6 November, BelTA learnt from the organizers of the forum.

Guests will start arriving at the cinema house at 18h30 local time. Vera Polyakova and Denis Parshin, the hosts of the ceremony, will invite them for a photo session. Camerata vocal group will perform the world’s jazz hits.

A fashion show will make part of the program. Belarusian celebrities and models will don outfits created by designer Nikolai Morozov. They will present the 2015/16 autumn-winter collection.

The official ceremony will kick off at 19h00. Performing at the ceremony will be Karen Karapetyan, The Unlimited Trio and Alexandra Gaiduk.

It is expected that the ceremony will be attended by special guest of the festival, French actress and filmmaker Fanny Ardant.

The ceremony will be wrapped up with a screening of Guillaume Nicloux’s film Valley of Love.

“The opening ceremony is a momentous secular event in the Belarusian cinematography. Belarusian cinema and theater actors, guests of the world film industry and the audience will be gathered in one place. Everyone will enjoy an unforgettable Eye of Pleasure,” said filmmaker Veronika Yanushevskaya-Oltushets.
