Gomel oblast lies to the southeast of Belarus and borders on Briansk oblast /Russia/, Kiev , Chernigov and Zhitomir oblasts /Ukraine/.

The territory of Gomel oblast is 40,400 square kilometers. One third of the territory is covered with forests; the biggest rivers – the Dnepr, the Sozh, the Berezina and the Pripiat – are the most important navigable ways of Belarus .

There is the national park Pripiatskiy and the Polesye radiation-ecological reserve in the oblast.

Today there are 23 museums and 4 theaters and philharmonic societies in Gomel oblast numbers.

The region has 2,540 monuments, 1,360 of them are monuments of history and culture, 140 – of architecture and 1,040 – of archeology. And if the latter /they include ancient settlements and burial places/ are of interest only to archeologists and historians, the other places stir deep interest of the people who appreciate architectural masterpieces and are fond of the Belarusian history.

Sardinia Culture Days in Minsk 23-24 February

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian capital will host the Culture Days of Sardinia, Italy on 23 to 24 February, BelTA learned from Belarus’ Honorary Consulate in the Italian city of Cagliari.

A delegation of Sardinian regional authorities led by Filippo Spanu, the head of the Sardinia President Administration, will come to Belarus to take part in the celebrations. The delegation will also comprise representatives of the regional association of agriculture and food entrepreneurs. Honorary Consul of Belarus to Cagliari Giuseppe Carboni will accompany the Sardinian delegation.

The program of the Culture Days features a workshop on folk music, songs and dances of Sardinia to be given by Emanuele Garau. The Italian-Belarusian education program Tourism Manager will hold a presentation of tourism opportunities. Besides, the program includes a concert of traditional Sardinian songs that will star Emanuele Garau, Valentino Serra, and Giuseppe Roberto Atzori.

The Autonomous Region of Sardinia has been actively cooperating with Belarus since 2004. Dozens of joint projects have been implemented since then. These include the projects to set up the training, professional development and retraining center Sardinia Global and the Italian-Belarusian Cooperation and Education Center Sardinia in Minsk.
