Gomel oblast lies to the southeast of Belarus and borders on Briansk oblast /Russia/, Kiev , Chernigov and Zhitomir oblasts /Ukraine/.

The territory of Gomel oblast is 40,400 square kilometers. One third of the territory is covered with forests; the biggest rivers the Dnepr, the Sozh, the Berezina and the Pripiat are the most important navigable ways of Belarus .

There is the national park Pripiatskiy and the Polesye radiation-ecological reserve in the oblast.

Today there are 23 museums and 4 theaters and philharmonic societies in Gomel oblast numbers.

The region has 2,540 monuments, 1,360 of them are monuments of history and culture, 140 of architecture and 1,040 of archeology. And if the latter /they include ancient settlements and burial places/ are of interest only to archeologists and historians, the other places stir deep interest of the people who appreciate architectural masterpieces and are fond of the Belarusian history.

Graphic works of Belarus Academy of Arts on display in Vienna

MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) An exhibition of graphic works and photography by students and academic staff of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, Kunstraum.by, opened in the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Vienna on 20 April, BelTA learnt from the Embassy of Belarus in Austria.

Attending the opening ceremony, on the invitation of the Belarusian embassy in Austria, were representatives of the state bodies, the Parliament of Austria, the authorities of Vienna, heads and staff of the accredited diplomatic missions, business and public circles, media and universities. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Austria Valery Voronetsky and Rector of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts Mikhail Borozna took note in their opening speeches the importance of developing cultural cooperation between Belarus and Austria.

The exposition is the third in a series of events organized by the Belarusian embassy jointly with the Belarusian State Academy of Arts in association with Priorbank. Thus, the exhibition was on show at the exhibition center Bergerhaus, Gumpoldskirchen, Lower Austria from 20 March to 1 April.

From 12 April until 5 May audio-visual works of the Belarsuian students will be on display at the exhibition hall of the Union of Artists of the Austrian Federal of Vorarlberg, in Bregenz.
